Hello, WA!

AFL fans know full-well that footy players often run a mini-marathon each and every game.Down at the West Coast Eagles, star midfielder Andrew Gaff is no exception. Affectionately known as a ‘running machine’, Gaff covers more ground than any other Eagles player. So, AGL has joined forces with FoodbankWA – one of the footy club’s charitable partners – to harness Gaff’s stamina and help tackle hunger in Western Australia.“As part of the AGL Metres for Meals initiative, AGL will donate 500 meals to FoodbankWA for every kilometre Andrew Gaff runs during an Eagles home game for the rest of the 2018 season,” explains Natalie Edwards, AGL Head of Western Australia.“We’re hoping he can maintain his impressive track record so far this season for the rest of the year, so we can ultimately provide FoodbankWA with as many as 50,000 meals. A contribution of this size should go a long way in helping the tens of thousands of Western Australians who rely on Foodbank to get by.”With FoodbankWA serving around 5.7 million meals each year, the charity’s national CEO, Greg Hebble, was delighted by the creation of the AGL Metres for Meals initiative.“We are very grateful for the continued support that we receive from the West Coast Eagles, its members and players, and we are thrilled to be working with the club’s Premier Partner AGL to provide additional food to families in need throughout the state,” he said. “This really will make a positive impact on those who have nowhere else to turn for a meal.”With more than three and a half million Australians experience food insecurity last year alone–over a quarter of them being children – Ms Edwards said the decision to offer support to FoodbankWA was an easy one for AGL to make.“We’re committed to supporting the communities in which we operate right across Australia,” she said.“Already proud supporters of the Eagles’ Indigenous Leadership Program, which helps mentor high school-aged Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, choosing to get behind the great work undertaken by Foodbank in WA was an obvious next step.”Click here to find out more about our partnership with the West Coast Eagles.
